Enjoy these full performances and exclusive interviews from our livestream on November 14 and 15, 2020!

We’re thrilled to announce that Shelter Fest Seattle generated over $11.7k in support for the Seattle Artist Relief Fund and directed over $2.1k to performing talent and Black-owned restaurants in our virtual food truck section.

Including talent fees, our total impact exceeded $20.7k in direct payments to Black artists and restaurant owners in our region!

These results would not have been possible without the support of our simulcast partners, Converge Media, The South Seattle Emerald, and KEXP, along with our sponsors.

While COVID-19 and the statewide shelter-in-place mandate disproportionately impact the arts and food service industries, Black artists and restaurant owners are some of the hardest hit. With the lack of support from the government, we believe that mutual aid and joint community efforts are some of the most critical ways we can show up for our community.

We created Shelter Fest Seattle to amplify Black voices in our community and beyond while highlighting individuals and organizations who have been doing this work long before the current moment. We believe that it is the responsibility of non-Black folks to educate ourselves and address the disparities caused by generations of systemic racism.

Above all, we hope Shelter Fest serves as a reminder that:

  • The pandemic doesn’t affect us all equally

  • It’s our duty to invest in those whom our systems have failed

  • Seattle is home to an incredibly talented and stylistically diverse community of Black musicians and chefs that deserve your attention

While the pandemic has turned most peoples’ lives upside down, the music and food service industries have been some of the hardest hit. In addition to losing income to lost wages and gigs, Black artists and restaurant owners also face the effects of systemic racism and gentrification with or without a global health crisis. Here are some ways you can provide financial support.

support artists in the greater seattle area

The Seattle Artist Relief Fund directly support artists in the greater Seattle area affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with a focus on BIPOC artists, transgender and nonbinary artists, and disabled artists.

Click here to invest in our community. Include "SARF - Shelter Fest" as the note to ensure funds are delivered.

pay performing artists, hosts, & chefs directly

While all artists and hosts have been compensated for their time and emotional labor, you can personally support the people who made this festival possible.

Find payment handles by clicking on their icons in the lineup!

order food from Black-owned restaurants

Supporting Black-owned businesses is always important, but it’s especially critical during the pandemic.

Our virtual food truck section makes it easy to order food directly from Black-owned restaurants in our region.

Shelter Fest Seattle was created by Lorenzo and Cosmo Rossi of Bad Habit Media, a family-owned social content agency serving local artists and small businesses. As brothers, we’ve been collaborating as long as we can remember and are always looking for creative ways to approach media production.

Growing up in Seattle, we’ve watched our home change dramatically over the years. We have a deep respect and appreciation for the people that keep the vibrant, artistic, and passionate core of our city alive. With artists and small businesses facing ever-rising costs of living and lack of governmental support, we believe it’s our responsibility to use our skills, networks, and resources to support our community.

We hope that you enjoy Shelter Fest and that we can continue this work together in the future. Thank you for being here, we appreciate you!

Love,
